BLOG TOUR!! Spectral by Shannon Duffy

Spectral At the Other End:

Convinced she’s a part of the witness protection program, sixteen-year-old Jewel Rose is shuffled around the globe with her family like a pack of travelling gypsies. After arriving at lucky home twenty-seven, she stumbles upon a mysterious boy with magical powers claiming to be her guardian . . . and warning of imminent danger. Despite the obvious sparks between them, Jewel discovers a relationship is forbidden, and the more she learns about dark, brooding Roman, she begins to question who she can even believe—the family who raised her, or the supposed sworn protector who claims they’ve been lying to her all along.

As she struggles to uncover who her family has really been running from, she is forced to hide her birthmark that reveals who she is. With new realities surfacing, unexplained powers appearing, and two tempting boys vying for her heart, Jewel battles to learn who she can trust in an ever growing sea of lies, hoping she’ll make it through her seventeenth birthday alive

First Impressions Last:

How can you not get pulled in by that blurb? It pulls us straight into the novel, hinting at what paranormal we could be dealing with in this novel, it doesn't give it away. OH SO TOTALLY LOVING THE COVER!!!!!!! PRETTY COLOURS!

Behind the 334 Pages:

Not quite 4 scrolls, yet above 3.5 scrolls......Hmmmm, another predictable one we've got here.... Although I was entertained and captured in this book the whole way through, it was thoroughly predictable. Jewel is one on the quiet side, we don't really see caracters like her now-a-days, we watch her grow from being quiet to someone who we could see have a lot of potential as being one of the heroines that we see in many novels today. I like this progression of growth in her, that way, we are more in tune with Jewel as a person, than to Jewel the character. The whole, running family from the dark forces and trying to protect Jewel is one of the major predictability points in this novel. And, as ususal, when in novels, the family is keeping something from the protagonist, Jewel goes and tries to find the solution herself. Well, who wouldn't when it's pretty obvious they're keeping something from her and dragging her to all these new places. There are oh so many twists and turns throughout the novel that keep us constantly turning through the pages and the momenum going. Nawwww, how can you not love her little brother, it makes me want to have a little brother! This book had all elements that I love in a story, growth, love and action blurred into one. I love the romance in this novel, despite my hate for love triangles. Yes, it did give me the sh*ts at times, but I loved it all no matter. I think I'm definitely team Roman :D
The ending was left open for our curiosity to wonder what would happen in the future. Yet we are content becuase all of the questions we had throughout the book have been answered at the ending, as well as towards the end of the novel.

BLOG TOUR!! Faces In the Water by Tonya Macalino

Faces in the Water (The Shades of Venice, #1)At the Other End:

Who created that slide of silk across your skin as you reached for your cinematic lover? Who recorded the crushing weight of the grizzly as you fought for your life in the fictional wilderness? It is Lone Pine Pictures’ Alyse Kate Bryant who wraps your body in the story only your mind was privy to before.
A brilliant sensory immersion artist and a wild daredevil, Alyse will do almost anything for the perfect sensory file, but the violent death of her father has her teetering on the very edge of reckless sanity.
For just one night, Alyse seeks refuge in the arms of a beautiful stranger. And her recklessness finally has consequences.
Now Alyse finds herself trapped in the flooded ruins of Venice, a quarantine camp for the carriers of Sleepers’ Syndrome. But it can never be that simple. Because the Sleepers’ Syndrome carriers who populate the camp are no longer as human as they seem.
The city of legend is bringing its legends back to life.
They come now, Alyse.
Run.

First Impressions Last:

Very intriguing sounding story. I've never heard of anything like this before, making me not wait to pick this book up. I loved the sensory immersionist use, which is some of what pulls you in. The you hear of something called 'Sleepers' Syndrome' and you get pulled in even further. Then lastly, it's how a paranormal element seems to find it's way into the end of the blurb and it's legend that gets us that last step of the way.

Behind the 289 Pages:

I was somewhat shocked when I started this novel. I didn't think I'd get a kind of post-apocalyptic feel to it from Sleepers' Syndrome. OK, well if I wanted to, really it could've been deciphered from the blurb, but still it came as a shock. To be honest, I didn't really understand the disease much at first, but as I got through the novel, I understood it all and how devestating it would be on Alyse, as well as the others affected by it as well (such as Ryan). Along with Alyse's 'enhanced' body we start to get used to this new world, that we didn't really know we'd get ourselves into. Just as this is a shock to us, we are thrown into this new world and forced to get over it (if we signed up for it or not) just like Alyse as she catches Sleepers' Syndrome. Her job makes her that much more interesting, as I have never read from a sensory illusionist's perspective before, nor read of one until the first time I picked up my Reader and started reading. It's a wonderful concept that is brought into the novel, and it brings with it a new light as well as a new take on first person narration. The ending, oh the ending. leads us perfectly from the start of her story into her next one. We find out the truth as to why she is so unique, as well as finding out her sweet, sweet plot to come back. (Yes, start getting intrigued)

COVER REVEAL!!! Blood Jewel by Georgia Cates

At The Other End:

With the mystery of Chansey Leclaire and Curry Brennan’s connection solved, they are free to explore their newfound love for one another. Or so they thought...

When Marsala uses a witch and black magic to discover Curry’s whereabouts, he and Chansey are left with no choice. The newly engaged couple is forced to relocate away from their families at the new compound in Savannah, which causes some major changes in the plans for their upcoming wedding.

Relocating to Savannah might have saved Curry and Chansey from being discovered by Marsala, but it doesn’t stop her attempts to reach Curry or her efforts to harm Chansey through the use of black magic. As Marsala closes in, Curry faces the decision he never wanted to make. Will he keep Chansey human or condemn her to eternity as the thing he hates most?

As Curry waits for his hand to be forced, a newly turned vampire arrives at the Savannah compound in need of help. Not only is she a fledgeling in transition, she brings reports of escaping from a vampire cult still in possession of her sister, a human. Any attempt to save the captive human from a cult of vampires puts everyone in jeopardy. Can they risk entering a large cult to save one human being? And is so, how could they possibly do it successfully?

Love will grow. New mysteries will arise. A battle will ensue. A Blood Jewel will be found

Finding The Time:

May 31 2012 (ONE WEEK!!)

Shhh....... Don't Tell:

*****************************************************************************

Are you ready? Do you want the cover? I want the cover!
How excited are you now from reading the above excerpt from the novel!
Well from this cover you're going to want to read it a whole lot more! I know I want to!

Blood Jewel (Vampire Agape #2)

I sat with my legs outstretched, leaning back on my palms and Chansey mimicked my position. She reached for her dress and scooted it up her thighs until she was satisfied with the amount of sun exposure on her legs. She enjoyed being in the sun and I wondered if she had given any thought as to how she would miss it if she became a vampire.
I didn’t want to think about it, so I shoved the thought aside and asked, “Are Gia and Lairah being overbearing about the wedding plans?”
“They have some intense ideas about our wedding,” she laughed. “I think I might want to elope.”
Now, she was talking my language. “You don’t have to convince me. I’ll take you to Vegas and make you my wife right now if it’s what you want.”
She quickly said, “Nope. I’m not ready to give up my dream of marrying you at the top of the open arm staircases.”
I wondered how I could be so lucky. How had I found enough favor with the gods to be given such a beautiful gift as Chansey?
“Oh, I’m sorry,” she apologized. “I didn’t even ask you if that was what you wanted.”
“I’ve already told you that I thought it was perfect,” I reminded her.
She appeared puzzled. “I don’t recall you telling me that.”
“We didn’t exactly discuss it. When we were at Rachel and Christian’s wedding reception, you told me how you pictured your wedding. We didn’t get far into the conversation because that jackass, Evan Finley, interrupted us.”
“Yes, that I remember well. I’m sorry his stupid insults stand out more in my mind than our conversation,” she apologized.
Just thinking about that jackass had my blood boiling, so I thought it was a great idea to steer the direction of the conversation back toward the wedding. “Have you thought about a date for our wedding?”
She smiled and her eyes lit up. “Yes, I’ve given it a lot of thought and I have a date in mind. How do you feel about a November wedding?”
No way! That was too long to wait. “I’d be fine with it if this was the end of October. I know four months isn’t forever, but it sure feels an eternity to me right now.”
“It’s not an eternity and four months barely gives me enough time to plan a small wedding. We haven't even told Granna and Granddaddy about our engagement yet. Have you forgotten that?”
I definitely had not forgotten that detail. “No, it hasn’t slipped my mind.”
She laughed and asked, “Are you worried about telling them?”
“I am a little nervous about it. I’ve never asked to marry someone before,” I admitted.
She leaned over and bumped her shoulder against mine. “Well, that’s good to know, but we’re telling them we’re getting married, not asking permission.”
“I know we don’t have to have their permission. That’s not what I need. It’s their blessing I want. I may be three times as old as Grady, but I still want to be respectful,” I said.
She looked at me and rested her chin against her shoulder as she laughed. “That is so bizarre to me.”
It didn’t sound like a compliment. “Does my age bother you?”
“No, I don’t think of you as your actual age. You just seem like a 26 year-old to me.” She sat up and leaned closer to brush her lips across mine. “A very robust 26 year-old.”
Her kiss and proximity stirred her Agape scent, leaving me with an intense urgency to be closer to her. I reached for her, pulling her against my chest a little too quickly. I heard her gasp and then I saw the smile across her face, proving the sudden catch in her breath resulted from delight instead of fear.
She deepened our kiss as she rolled to her back, pulling me on top of her to rest between her bent knees. This was our first private moment since we arrived at the compound and it caused me to be overly enthusiastic. I knew I shouldn’t, but I placed my hand behind one of her knees and pulled her leg to wrap around my waist as I pressed my body into hers. A sigh escaped her lips and she pulled her other leg up around my waist. The thoughts of what I wanted to do to her returned me to my senses and she recognized the look she had become so well acquainted with when things between us had gone a little too far.
She groaned because she knew what was coming next and locked her legs around my waist. “Don’t you dare stop because you can not keep doing this to me. It’s totally unfair!”
I reached for her legs to coax them off of me. “Move the wedding up and I’ll be more than glad to become totally fair. In fact, I’m quite anxious to be totally fair.”
A thoughtful look came across her face and she said, “October. It’s the earliest I can pull it off even with help from Gia and Lairah.”
I tugged on her bottom lip with my teeth. “That’s still three months away,” I complained.
A pouty look came over her face and the little vixen I loved tried to use her power of persuasion on me just like Sebastian said she would. “I know a way to make the next three months pass much faster.”
“You’re name shouldn’t be Chansey. It should be Risky because you are playing with a fire you highly underestimate,” I assured her.
She dramatically huffed. “Promises, promises. I’m not sure I’ll ever find out if I underestimate you or not.”
Since I easily talked her into moving the date a month earlier, I thought I might push my luck a little further. “Looks like you won’t discover the truth for months, unless you want to move the date closer.” I took my hand and placed it on her thigh, moving it slowly under her dress as I said, “Come on, let’s do it.” I allowed my words linger as I gazed into her eyes and then I added, “In August.”
When I began to laugh, she forcibly slapped my hand away from under her dress to show her unhappiness with my joke. “I can wait if you can. Maybe even until the end of December. I’ve heard Christmas weddings are beautiful.”
It was clear I had pushed my luck too far with her when she showed me how she could beat me at my own game, so I conceded. “I’ll take the October wedding.”

Author Bio...

PhotobucketOn slow, snowy days in her Colorado home, Meira Pentermann enjoys cozying up on the couch with a novel. Naturally, snow is not a requirement; neither is the couch. In fact, she sees no reason not to indulge in reading three-hundred-and-sixty-five days a year. Apocalyptic science fiction, mysteries, and young adult titles top her Kindle list, but legal thrillers and chik-lit make an appearance now and then.

When not absorbed in writing or reading, Meira enjoys life’s little moments with her family – the love and devotion of her black lab, the quiet wisdom of her artistic twenty-one-year-old, the trials and triumphs of her petite sixth grader, and the unlimited encouragement offered by her Dutch husband.

Meira strives to write stories that deliver the unexpected. She prefers down-to-earth characters that look and behave like regular folks. The prom queen and Adonis take a backseat to reclusive, soul-searching heroines and quirky, introverted gentlemen.

VIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! INTERVIEW! IN

Take A Seat. Get Strapped In. Let's Go For A Ride:

1. Where have we seen you before? (previous projects/works)
The first edition of FIREFLY BEACH was released in 2009 through Lyrical Press. Last year I published NINE-TENTHS, a dystopian science fiction. Other writers may know me from the AbsoluteWrite forums where I have participated in the query letter critique thread off and on since 2007.

2. What goes through your mind after your novel has been on sale for the first week?
Interesting question. I think the first twenty-four hours are the most nerve-racking. After that, I find peace in the idea that the book has launched. Obsessing over one more edit is no longer an option. It is kind of a relief, actually. I can finally move on to promotional activities and new writing endeavors.

3. What inspired you to write this novel?
FIREFLY BEACH developed in stages before it took off in my brain and wouldn’t leave me alone. I first envisioned the firefly in 2004 when my husband and I were on a retreat. We participated in a relaxation seminar. The instructor asked us to imagine a very safe and quiet space – a room, a meadow, whatever came to mind. I pictured a small beach secluded by high cliffs. But, honestly, relaxation exercises and I do not do well together. Thoughts run around in my brain in spite of my efforts to quiet them. Shortly after arriving at my special beach, a firefly joined me dancing around the cliff. Then a diary and the idea that it belonged to a long-lost girl.

That concept drifted to the back of my mind while I worked on another manuscript from 2004 through 2007. As soon as I declared that manuscript finished, the firefly returned to me, flooding me with ideas. I could not write them down fast enough. I realized that Beth’s story was far more compelling than the words I labored over for three years. At that moment, the old manuscript found its way to a shelf in the back of my closet, and I passionately dove into FIREFLY BEACH.

4. What do you think about when getting/seeing negative reviews?
Negative reviews can be painful; there’s no doubt about it. Nevertheless, many people have come to me – emailed me, called me – saying they were in love with the story, that it overpowered them, and that they missed the characters when they were finished. Not everyone is going to like a book, but the people who loved the story so passionately remind me of how rewarding writing can be.

5. How long was the writing/planning process?
Writing the first draft of FIREFLY BEACH took about a year, but the three years I devoted to my first manuscript were an invaluable learning experience. During that time, I worked with editors and produced numerous drafts - polishing my writing and editing skills in the process. As far as planning, the story developed on its own with manic periods of note taking as ideas came to me. I did keep a “continuity of facts” spreadsheet, where I created birthdays and childhoods for the characters. Much of this information never made it into the story, but it provided a history from which I could draw personality quirks and passions. It also kept me on my toes in regards to age differences and personal backgrounds.

6. What was your reaction to the cover art when you saw it for the first time? Did you have any ideas from the days of writing/inspiration?
The current cover was painted by a friend of the family. I “commissioned” it from her in 2007 and had it framed. It hangs in my office, and it is a continual reminder of my early aspirations for FIREFLY BEACH. I absolutely love this painting, so I was delighted to use it for the second edition of FIREFLY BEACH. The first edition had an attractive cover, but it did not really fit the story.

7. Any plans for future writing projects? Any being worked on now?
I am currently working on a grade 3-6 novel called SARAH AND THE MAGIC MAYONNAISE JAR. This story offers further proof of my genre-commitment-phobia. I can’t seem to help myself. The novel should be available by the end of 2012. I am working with an outstanding new illustrator, Rachel Loftus, and I am excited to bring my daughter’s favorite story to life.

8. Top 5 books

This is always a difficult question. My opinion changes time and again. I’ll call them out randomly and from different genres:
  • DELIRIUM by Lauren Oliver
  • 1984 by George Orwell
  • FEAR NO EVIL by Natan Sharansky
  • HAMLET by William Shakespeare
  • THE GOLDEN COMPASS trilogy by Philip Pullman

9.  Recommended books:
THE WEIRD SISTERS by Eleanor Brown and ON THE ISLAND by Tracey Garvis-Graves.

10.  Why read your novel?
Okay, lol. Putting me on the spot. Here we go: Readers who like mysteries will enjoy FIREFLY BEACH. It is a light read with peculiar characters and unexpected plot twists. It is a perfect beach read for the summer ;)

Thank you for your time. I enjoyed this interview very much!

What Authors Really Crave?

Years of writing, researching and editing seem to fly by. Dozens of red pencils have been reduced to shavings and eraser dust. Eyes remain dry and red after hours spent in front of the computer. Body and brain have succumbed to exhaustion. But when an author sees her words, all cozied up in their beautiful cover, she knows every minute was worth it, and she anticipates the day it will go online with joy and trepidation.

As the day of publication draws near, what do authors dream about?
  • Depositing a large royalty check? (I could live with that.)
  • Chatting about her novel with a famous talk show host? (Could be fun.)
  • Sipping Pina Coladas while watching her title climb the NY Times Best Seller list? (Si. Uno mas, por favor.)
  • Perhaps gathering with friends and family at a book signing in a local hotspot? (Definitely sounds cozy.)

All of these activities have one thing in common; they relate to or inspire the most important ingredient of all. This ingredient is implied by a royalty check. It is documented on the NY Times best seller list. And at the local bookstore, it is brought face to face.

After all is said and done, the thing an author craves most is. . . readers. Strip away all the fluff and what is left behind is the most precious gem of all - someone who loves your novel! Nothing else can compare. I would trade a million unread books sold in a popular book-buying-frenzy for a hundred happy readers.

That's what it's all about. Writing for any other reason is a waste of life's precious moments.

~ Meira Pentermann

Take A Seat. Get Strapped In. Let's Go For A Ride:

1. Where have we seen you before? (previous projects/works)
My Boyfriend Merlin, Book 1, of the My Merlin Series was my debut YA Arthurian paranormal in late 2011. My Merlin Awakening is Book 2 of My Merlin.

2. What goes through your mind after your novel has been on sale for the first week?
“I can’t believe it’s actually out. I’ve had it in my head for so long. This is awesome.” Followed shortly by… “Eeek, it’s out. I’ve dropped my baby off into the wild. I hope the other kids play nice.”

3. What inspired you to write this novel?
I wanted to write about Excalibur falling in modern times and shortly thereafter I knew where Excalibur was Merlin would shortly follow. I love how organic stories can be.

4. What do you think about when getting/seeing negative reviews?

LOL. I reread the positive ones. Seriously.

5. How long was the writing/planning process?

It depends on the book… sometimes several months. The planning process for the first book is much longer because you are doing a lot of world-building and getting to know your characters. In a series, the key is that the tension has to last through until the end.

6. What was your reaction to the cover art when you saw it for the first time? Did you have any ideas from the days of writing/inspiration?

When I saw it, I knew it reflected the mood of the book perfectly. The Boyfriend Merlin cover has a younger girl and in Book 1, Ryan is an ingénue. The Awakening cover is more moody and shows the water element in the book off very well.

7. Any plans for future writing projects? Any being worked on now?

Currently, I am working on Ever My Merlin, Book 3 in the series.

8. Top 5 books

·         Harry Potter (all seven)

·          Beauty by Robin McKinley

·          Blue Sword by Robin McKinley

·          Alanna series by Tamora Pierce

·          Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

9. Recommended books
All of the ones above!

10. Why read your novel?
If you’re looking for a paranormal with wizards and gargoyles, this one is for you!  In Awakening, you also get to see a few more supernatural creatures like mermaids. But in the end this is a story about a girl finding herself and deciding what (and who) she wants in her life.

Thank you for interviewing me today!
