BLOG TOUR!! Shudder by Samantha Durante Review

At the Other End:
It’s only been three days, and already everything is different.
Paragon is behind her, but somehow Alessa’s life may actually have gotten worse. In a wrenching twist of fate, she traded the safety and companionship of her sister for that of her true love, losing a vital partner she’d counted on for the ordeal ahead. Her comfortable university life is but a distant memory, as she faces the prospect of surviving a bleak winter on the meager remains of a ravaged world. And if she’d thought she’d tasted fear upon seeing a ghost, she was wrong; now she’s discovering new depths of terror while being hunted by a deadly virus and a terrifying pack of superhuman creatures thirsting for blood.
And then there are the visions.
The memory-altering “stitch” unlocked something in Alessa’s mind, and now she can’t shake the constant flood of alien feelings ransacking her emotions. Haunting memories of an old flame are driving a deep and painful rift into her once-secure relationship. And a series of staggering revelations about the treacherous Engineers – and the bone-chilling deceit shrouding her world’s sorry history – will soon leave Alessa reeling…

The second installment in the electrifying Stitch Trilogy, Shudder follows Samantha Durante’s shocking and innovative debut with a heart-pounding, paranormal-dusted dystopian adventure sure to keep the pages turning.

First Impressions Last:
What an emotional ride. Thrilling, fast paced and completely engaging the entire time. The sequel to Stitch is one you don't want to miss out on. The only thing I can say now after reading this is, WHERE IS STRUCK?! (aka, book 3)

Shhh....... Don't Tell:

Alessa couldn’t see his face, but she could feel the heat of him sidled up against her.  His body wrapped protectively around hers, she was flooded with a sense of sanctuary, of knowing she was safe from whatever dangers lurked outside.
Still enveloped in the tranquil mist of sleep, she smiled deeply and rolled over to face him.  Her eyes still closed, she dreamily ran her hands over his broad chest and nuzzled her face against the scruff of his chin with a sigh.
Tilting her head up, she trailed his chiseled jaw with her lips, their mouths meeting in a slow, tender kiss.  Their eyes fell open in unison and she lost herself for a moment in the endless blue she knew so well.
But then something began to change for Alessa, some incongruous feeling rising fiercely from her gut.  A sudden distinct thirst overwhelmed her.  But not for water – for blood.
And she was taken with the bestial desire to kill.
Startled, she pulled back from their embrace, searching his eyes for answers.  And what she saw there set her heart racing.
Yes, those blue eyes were the same she remembered, but the face that held them was not.  It wasn’t Isaac she lay entangled with, but Joe.

Behind the 348 Pages

We finish Stitch on one massive cliffhanger One jaw dropping cliffhanger to be exact. Now starting Shudder, we don't miss a thing. Getting straight back to where we were in the story, just a mere 3 days after where we finish Stitch, everything is coming back to us and we are just as on edge as before. There are more things brought into this book that we don't see in Stitch. In Stitch, we become part of Alessa and go with her everything that has happened and that is to happen. We go with her to get her life back on track from the Stitch and to bring the Rebel's plans into motion with Issac. Now in Shudder, we get more information on this world and how Paragon came to be. We are introduced to a few new characters and some we have seen glimpses of before, Nikhil, 14, Phoenix and Joe. In this book, we see what they are going through and where they are. Nikhil and 14 in a prison, Phoenix in a hospital, visited by all Paragon's producers, directors etc, and hearing about Joe from Alessa and Issac. Even from the prequel , we get the inside scoop on the Producers and the big shots running Paragon.

For most of this book, we are with Alessa and Issac as they try to find a new base camp for the Rebels. This felt a little slow for me, but the mysterious creatures that kept hunting them brought the pace up and kept us intrigued as we learn about the past and what they hope for in the future, as well as the romance between the two. Even in this book, most main characters start to get on your nerves, and you even start to dislike some of them. Not in this though, we love Alessa and Issac even more that we do in Stitch. Our connection with them grows and we delve deep into the book and cling onto every word they say and everything that they face together. These characters continue to surprise us with how strong they are emotionally and physically, as well as their drive to do everything that they can for the better future, as well as getting to see their loved ones at the end of this journey.

The change of "scenes" (not really POV's because it's in third person, but anyways....) was flawless, even though there are multiple scenes to go between, Samantha does not miss a single beat and we pick up right where we left off, as if we hadn't even left those characters for a few chapters. No confusion, no time gap or event gap at all, everything flows perfectly and we love every second we get into a new "scene", just like as if we were the rest of the population watching the Dramas.... All I can really say is, well played Samantha!

Some of the things were a bit predictable. It was this case with the end of the book, but even though it is, it doesn't make you disappointed when you come to find out in the end of the book. It just makes you want Struck even more, because you knew what was going to happen, even though you don't want it to and you NEED to know what is going to happen next. Just like what happened when we reached the end of Stitch.

Even though this book was completely engaging, I just wish that there was a bit more world building when it came to Phoenix being visited in the hospital by all the producers while they tell their story and their part of how Paragon came to be, and with Alessa and Issac when they are looking for the new base camp. We get a brief view of what everything looks like, but not like we did in Stitch. We start to miss that in this book, especially when we want to know what everything is like on the outside, as well as on the inside with the producers and directors.

My own little problem was that I wish I had more time to read this book. I had to stop myself between chapters because of so many other things going on that I just didn't have much time to read. When I started back up in between chapters, I knew what was going on, but I lost the pace that was built up while I was really getting into the book. This is not a fault with the book, but my own little fault because of the time. I didn't get into this book as I knew I could have when starting the book. I could see myself really getting into the book, but then something happens that dragged me out of the book and back into reality..... Damn. :(

BLOG TOUR!! Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend by Louise Rozett

At the Other End:
Rose Zarelli has big plans for sophomore year—everything is going to be different. This year, she’s going to be the talented singer with the killer voice, the fabulous girl with the fashionista best friend, the brainiac who refuses to let Jamie Forta jerk her around...

...but if she’s not careful, she’s also going to be the sister who misses the signals, the daughter who can only think about her own pain, the “good girl” who finds herself in mid-scandal again (because no good deed goes unpunished) and possibly worst of all...the almost-girlfriend.

When all else fails, stop looking for love and go find yourself.

Author Bio:
Louise Rozett is an author, a playwright, and a recovering performer. She made her YA debut with Confessions of an Angry Girl, published by Harlequin Teen. The next book in the series, Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend, is due out June 2013. She lives with her 120-pound Bernese Mountain dog Lester (named after Lester Freamon from THE WIRE, of course) in one of the world's greatest literary meccas, Brooklyn...and also in sunny Los Angeles. Ms. Maso’s Top-Ten List for Surviving High School

All right, everyone, listen up. I’m Ms. Maso, the Union High health teacher. High school is not an easy time, but there are a couple of things you can do that will help you get through it, okay? Here’s my top-ten list for surviving high school. Follow these, and I can pretty much guarantee that you’ll get out alive. And maybe you’ll even have a good time in the process.

#10: SPEND SOME TIME STUDYING. You already know this but studying and good grades are important. It bears repeating because if you learn how to knuckle down in high school, you’ll be able to do it for the rest of your life.

#9: SPEND THE REST OF YOUR TIME HAVING FUN. Even though working hard is important, it’s not everything. People probably tell you all the time that these are the best years of your life, and you probably roll your eyes, thinking that adults have just forgotten how to be kids. But what we’re telling you is, when you’re a teenager, you generally have very few responsibilities compared to when you’re an adult. So you should take advantage of that and have fun.

#8: LEARN THE VALUE OF MONEY. If you understand that money doesn’t grow on trees and that someone actually has to make it, and that at some point that someone is probably going to be you, you’ll develop a healthy respect for money, and that will affect how you spend it, save it, think about it, etc.

#7: LEARN HOW TO TALK TO YOUR PARENTS OR OTHER ADULTS IN YOUR LIFE. We may seem like your enemies, but grownups can be useful from time to time. We’ve been through stuff and we know things, and we’re willing to share our knowledge, even if you’re annoyed by having to ask us for help.

#6: THINK ABOUT YOUR FUTURE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE—BUT ONLY EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. If you zero in on what you care about, what you find interesting, what piques your might figure out what to study and where you want to go to college and what you want to be. The sooner you start figuring those things out, the clearer your path will be. But again, high school is supposed to be a pretty carefree time, so don’t freak out if you don’t know what the future holds. No one does.

#5: FIND SOMETHING TO DO THAT YOU LOVE. Whether it’s team sports or acting or writing for the newspaper or playing an instrument or being on the debate team or reading books, it’s important to have something that you love doing. It can connect you to other people, either virtually or in real-time, and really, that’s what life is all about—connecting with other people.

#4: PICK GOOD FRIENDS. If you have good friends, you’ll always have people to turn to for everything from a crisis to a good time. But you have to pick good friends—those are the people who respect you and like you for who are. They are sometimes different from the people you think you should be friends with.

#3: THINK FOR YOURSELF. Don’t let other people dictate what you think and feel. Period. You’ve got a brain. Use it.

#2: RESPECT OTHERS. Treat people with kindness, the way you would like to be treated. This is often harder than it sounds.

#1: RESPECT YOURSELF. Treat yourself with kindness. I repeat—this is often harder than it sounds. However, this is the key to living a happy, successful life. Respect yourself—because no one’s going to do it for you.

Laura Howard

Author Bio:
Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her  obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.

Shhh. Don't Tell.....

We’re going to the beach tomorrow,” Nicole said.
“Have fun,” I mumbled.
She wiped her lips with a napkin and narrowed her eyes at me. “You’re coming.” I opened my mouth to argue, but she held a slender finger up at me and pursed her lips. “It’s the first Saturday you’ve had off in months. School’s over, at least for the summer. You’re coming.”
I sighed and looked up at the pattern of our umbrella. “You really know how to ruin a perfectly good sundae.”
Her eyes shot daggers at me. “We’ll have a great time, Al.” Her expression changed as she seemed to change tactics. Her green eyes widened and her lip stuck out just the tiniest bit.
Cranky Nicole was a challenge, but pouting Nicole was impossible.
“Fine,” I sighed. “We’re going to the beach.” I looked at my sundae, which had made me so happy a minute earlier and a thought came to me. She hadn’t said anyone else was coming, but Nicole and her boyfriend Jeff were practically inseparable. “Wait, who else is going?”
Nicole grinned, clearly smelling her victory. “The usual crew: Jeff, Rachel, Sean and”—her eyebrows inched up—“Ethan.”
I nodded, trying to breathe evenly. I hated the way my pulse spiked at just the mention of his name. Handsome, cocky Ethan. His smile had the power to break down every one of my defenses. But, I didn’t have space in my life for that. I had a plan—to focus on taking care of my mom. My grandparents had done it by themselves for long enough. I needed to find a way to help, to unburden them. That was my priority. But Ethan…he was so hard to resist sometimes.

COVER REVEAL!! Hearken by Kristen Day

At The Other End:
Sometimes our souls hear what our minds and hearts refuse to accept. It will whisper its continuous cadence until we're strong enough to glimpse the truth. When the soul's whispers morph into screams, we're forced to gaze into the mirrors of time and see ourselves for who we really are. Would you be able to handle what gazes back?

Finding The Time:

Kristen DayAuthor Bio:
Kristen Day is a southern belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every opportunity.  She loves all things nostalgic, rustic, and quirky.  She’s been told she sees the world through rose-colored glasses, but she prefers to think of them as kaleidoscope glasses - swirling and morphing reality into something she can digest (who hasn't pretended those pasty lima beans were really kiwi strawberry jelly beans?).

She is the author of the DAUGHTERS OF THE SEA trilogy, which includes FORSAKEN, AWAKEN (Oct 2012), and CHOSEN (Winter 2012).  She loves all books, but really enjoys writing young adult, paranormal romances.  She’s loved to write for as long as she can remember.  Her first published work was her poem RED in second grade (you guessed it - it was a poem about the color red - life altering, right?) that won her 5 gold stars and a spot in her elementary school's poetry book. That's when her addiction to the written word officially began.  She was the only kid in fifth grade that actually enjoyed diagramming sentences. Go ahead and laugh - its okay.

When she’s not writing she’s making jewelry, painting, feeding her addiction to sweet tea, watching the Discovery Channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North Carolina with her amazing husband. She was born in Boone, NC and graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Marketing in 2001.
