Interview with Tina Moss & Yelena Casale, author of A Touch of Darkness

At the Other End:
Cassie’s working for a tightwad boss at a pretentious NYC diner, dealing with paralyzing pain that doctors can’t diagnose, and trying to hide her hands that glow purple whenever she ...well, whenever.

So, when a mysterious stranger walks out of her dreams and into her life to spout some nonsense about her being a mythical creature, she chalks it up to one more crazy thing to add to her it’s-a-crappy-life list. Yet, when the stranger’s predictions start to come true, she discovers a world that could shake up her humdrum existence.

Take A Seat. Get Strapped In. Let's Go For A Ride:

1. Where have we seen you before? (previous projects/works)
Tina: Thank you so much for inviting us to your blog! My work has appeared in several anthologies for poetry as well as articles in scholarly journals from my years in academics. However, this will be my first novel and I’m thrilled to share the experience with Yelena.

Yelena: We also have separate short stories available in the Winter Wonders anthology for charity.

2. What goes through your mind after your novel has been on sale for the first week?
Tina: Besides happy tears? I’ll just be so thankful to have this book in the hands of readers. I’m sure nerves will play a factor, but I know it’ll be sheer gratitude toward anyone that takes time to read our book.

Yelena:  Like Tina, I’ll just be happy and grateful to have the book out there in the world and in the hands of readers.

3. What inspired you to write this novel?
Yelena: Inspiration struck through a shared conversation. Tina and I had been training in the dojo one night and after class we got to talking about writing. I’d been telling her how I’d written in school and college and really missed it.

Tina: I had no idea she was a writer! I was so excited and proposed the idea of writing exercises to get her back in the swing of things. But, I could tell she was looking for something more. So, I decided to take a chance and revealed this idea I had about a guardian angel and another character who just didn’t quite fit in the “normal” mould. I’d never written adult fiction before, but this concept would not leave me alone.

Yelena: I loved the idea and already had a huge knowledge of different angelic mythology. It’s one of my favorite topics.

Tina: It was one of those moments where you know something special is about to happen. We started writing A TOUCH OF DARKNESS the next day.

4. What do you think about when getting/seeing negative reviews?
Yelena: As with most books, we don’t expect everyone to love it. We are happy that our novel will be with readers. If the negative reviews offer constructive criticism, it’s something that we may want to consider for our future work. Otherwise, we take it in stride.

Tina: I tease Yelena all the time that I’m excited about gif reviews! Honestly, the fact that someone will be reading our book is amazing to me. So, if we get negative reviews I’ll be fine with it, just please bring on the gifs!

5. How long was the writing/planning process?
Yelena: It took us around a year and a half to plan and finish the book. We were excited to be writing, but we had to figure out the best way to work together and to streamline our process.
Tina: We worked well together as our styles seem to mesh, but as we grow as writers we have to consistently alter our process to make it work best for both of us and get the most out of our books.

6. What was your reaction to the cover art when you saw it for the first time? Did you have any ideas from the days of writing/inspiration?

Yelena: We thought it was dark and beautiful. We especially liked the city background, which was the idea we originally had.

Tina: It’s gorgeous! Our book is difficult to box into one genre, but the cover art captures the overall atmosphere very well.

7. Any plans for future writing projects? Any being worked on now?
Tina: Oh yes! The party doesn’t end here. I’m working on too many projects at the moment, but my next finished book is CODE BLACK, a paranormal romantic suspense. Together Yelena and I are working on a “secret project” with reveals as we progress on our blogs.

Yelena:  Besides the “secret project” with Tina, I’m currently working on two urban fantasies.

8. Top 5 books

Tough question. Picking them together, we agree on...

  • THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins
  • AT GRAVES END by Jeaniene Frost
  • MAGIC SLAYS by Ilona Andrews
  • IRON KISSED by Patricia Briggs
  • CARESSED BY ICE by Nalini Singh

9. What book/s from other authors do you wish you had written?

Yelena: I would definitely say Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series as well as Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series.

Tina: Great picks! I’ll add Nalini Singh’s AMAZING psy-changeling series. Her world-building and characterization skills are off the charts.

10. Why read your novel?
Yelena: It features a strong heroine who finds out she’s an important element in the struggle between two supernatural forces. She matures and develops her skills while coming to terms with a sexy soulful hero and a gritty, dark and exciting world. We believe it will appeal to urban fantasy and paranormal romance fans alike.

Tina: Well said! It has very dark moments coupled with light-hearted, fun scenes. It’s not a black and white world in the slightest and definitely has more than fifty shades of gray.
