BLOG TOUR!! Now or Never by Jamie Canosa

ST POST! GUEST POST! GUEST POST! GUEST POST! GUEST POST! GUEST POST! GUEST POST! GUEST POST! GU

At the Other End:
To move on,
Leave the past behind,
And build a new life with Jay.
That’s all Em wanted. After everything they’d been through together, they were both overdue their ‘happily ever after’. Too bad the world doesn’t work that way. Memories last longer than dreams and Em’s fears continue to plague her both day and night, interfering with that new life she so desperately craves.
To start over,
Secure a future,
And give Em the life she deserves.
That was Jay’s plan, but the past isn’t done with them, yet. While Em still struggles to overcome the ghosts of her past, Jay is forced to come face to face with his. When the skeletons in his closet step back into the light, Jay must decide what he will do—and what he will sacrifice—to protect Em from them.
Against all odds, Em and Jay are on the verge of having everything they’ve ever wanted. They’ve fought for it before, but is their love strong enough to endure any more heartache? The time has come for each of them to choose for themselves whether or not they will allow the past to continue to corrupt their future. And, together, they must decide, will it be . . . NOW OR NEVER?

Now or Never Playlist

I love music almost as much as I love books. By the time I’m finished, every project that I work on has its own playlist. Songs that remind me of characters, or scenes, or the story as a whole. Today, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite selections from the Now or Never playlist with you along with some mini-excerpts from the book.

Just Give Me a Reason by Pink
The very first time I heard this song, I knew it was Jay and Em’s song for Now or Never. It touches on the fierce love between them that they’re willing to fight for, but also how, in trying to protect one another, they can hurt that love.

How could she not give him what he needed? She couldn’t. She couldn’t deny him anything. Even at the expense of her heart.”

Damaged by Plumb
This song played through my head a lot during the first book of the series. At that time it was meant for Em. She’s damaged—Em knows it, Jay knows it, we know it—but not beyond repair. And from the very start, that’s Jay’s goal, to repair her.
This time around the song wasn’t meant for Em, though. Even though he may hide it a little better than she does, Jay is just as damaged by his past.

“What if there was something wrong with him? Something spoiled? Something rotten deep down? Something he’d inherited?”

Perfect by Pink
This is my song for both Jay and Em. Sometimes it’s hard to see past your own perception of yourself to see what other’s see in you. They both struggle with this, and throughout the story, I just want to turn up the volume and blare this song for them.

“Tears misted Em’s eyes as she realized that he saw what she saw when she looked in the mirror. The scars. Not the ones on his back, but the one’s made on their souls. That’s all either of them could see.”

I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz
Another song that has carried over from book one. This song perfectly encompasses the love Em and Jay share. It’s not easy. Nothing is easy for them, but they just keep fighting for each other. They make mistakes, they make wrong turns. There’s heartache, and pain, and fear, but they never ever give up.

“I love you. Always. No matter what.”

Excerpt 1 (Teasers)
“Emily Jenkins, corrupting young men. What would people say?” He tutted at me and as if by magic, I spotted an elderly lady walking along the pavement, scrunching up her nose to stare at us. – Surprise Visitor (The Darkness Through the Light Series)

When I thought I might make her lips too swollen from my rough need of her, I pulled away. Those half-open dark eyes could’ve pulled me into Hell, and I would’ve gladly followed with a stupid smile on my face. - Jeremy’s Heart (Saga of the Setti)

Even when you know it’s the right thing to do, running away from home is never easy. They’re not good people. I can’t stay here anymore. – The Runaway-Tawni’s Story (The Dwellers Saga)

He smiled and my heart melted. One look like that and I second guessed every decision I made. – Rift (The Syrenka Series)

I had to entertain myself somehow, and being around these ridiculous humans made me homesick for a land I left centuries ago. – Human Resources (The Lelia Marx Novels)

This too shall pass. I mentally repeated it over and over, hoping Nathaniel’s injury wasn’t as bad as my crumbling heart made it out to be. – The Sound of Love (The Kindrily Series)

Perhaps the hardest thing to accept about one’s fate is that it can take years to unfold. But when it does, it’s worth every second, every breath, and every dream. – Fate (Annabelle’s Story)

Excerpt 2 (The Syrenka Series - Cold Feet)
As soon as I saw the first glimmer of sunrise, I trudged back up to the house and tried to prepare myself for the humiliation to come. Though early morning, a flurry of movement reminded me that wedding preparations were in full swing. I sighed as I took that last, heavy step up to the expansive wood deck. No amount of preparation would make this any easier. The sliding glass door slid open with a thud, and three protectors emerged carrying large vases of flowers. Troy saw me standing in the shadows and nodded in my direction. “Master Matthew. I didn’t know you were here already.” I tried to make my smile look authentic. “Couldn’t sleep.” He set the heavy arrangement down and wiped a bead of sweat from his face. “Getting cold feet yet?” he teased. My stomach flipped and I swallowed the anger in my throat. Instead of replying I forced out a laugh. This wouldn’t be easy. I was here and no one knew Eviana was gone. Who do I tell first? “Is Mistress Dumahl inside?” I asked, deciding on her mother, the leader of their clan. “Yes, in the banquet room I believe,” Troy said. I nodded to him and walked inside the house. Moving around the center island, I couldn’t help but notice the flowers and baskets and wedding decorations scattered all over the place. A lot had gone into the planning of this wedding, and a lot of people were going to be very disappointed. As I rounded the corner, I ran into a petite woman carrying a clipboard and yelling into her cell phone. “No, I said fuchsia, not pink. You better not show up here with pink bows.” She looked up with a glare before recognizing me. “I’m not arguing about this anymore. Just be here soon.” She hung up and shook her head. “I tell you, give someone a little leeway and they think they can redesign the whole wedding.” “Mistress Dumahl,” I said. “I need to…” “Please, call me Marguerite, Kain. You’re a part of this family now.” She beamed at me with a smile that perfectly matched Eviana’s. I sucked in a breath. “I wasn’t expecting you so early, but I’m glad you’re here. Perhaps you can get her out of bed?” “Eviana? But I need to talk to…” “Yes,” she said and brushed past me. “Please tell Eviana that I need her downstairs in twenty minutes.” Before she finished that sentence, her phone rang again. I heard her yelling at yet another vendor as she marched through the house. Tempted to leave, I stood there weighing the pros and cons of that decision. I could just slip away until they noticed Eviana had left and let them break the news to me. That would be easier, but that would also be cowardly.

Excerpt 3 (The Leila Marx Novels - Discovery)
The aroma of simmering bacon mixed with freshly cooked eggs filled the kitchen and tempted my stomach. Russ hustled back and forth between the table and stove as graceful as a dancer, not once breaking his stride. Much appreciated in my house, his cooking skills only added to the attractiveness. I leaned against the counter to enjoy the view. Dressed only in a pair of jeans, Russ’ bare back flexed with each little move. His muscular arms moved effortlessly and when he turned to smile at me, my heart fluttered. “Good morning, beautiful,” he said. Despite the novelty of our relationship, I predicted he was here to stay. No one had ever made me feel like this before. I smiled and walked to his side, wrapping my arms around his waist and squeezing tight. “Morning,” I replied. Lifting my head to meet his lips, another rush of emotions flooded my body. On top of my own infatuation, an overwhelming sense of happiness embraced me. Despite trying to shield myself, Russ’ feelings poured through every place our skin touched. We were both ridiculously content with each other. I smiled, but then noticed only one plate at the table. “You’re not staying?” Russ kissed the top of my head and pushed away to finish lifting the bacon out of the sizzling pan. “No, I have to go home and then into work for a bit.” Pouting, I pulled the chair out and sat down next to the single setting. He laughed and loaded up my plate. “Don’t look so sad. I’ll be back tonight.” Rare for us to spend a night apart, I still couldn’t control the tingling in my body every time we planned to see each other. “What are you doing today?” Russ asked while rinsing the pans. “I think I’ll go check out that psychic I told you about.” He’d cooked the bacon to a perfect crisp and I savored my first bite. With a full mouth, I added, “She’s one of the last ones I haven’t met.” Russ shook his head and chuckled. My little project amused him. Knowing the special gifts I had, he accepted the idea of others like me. But he thought my efforts to prove them wrong were unnecessary. Every time I moved to a new city, I made it a point of identifying the true psychics. So far, they’ve all been fake. In a city the size of Baltimore, I expected to find at least one. Maybe the lady today would be the real deal. “Well, have fun.” Russ dried his hands and leaned across the small kitchen table to grab my face. “As far as I’m concerned, you’re the only psychic in my book.”

Guest Post with Mike Phillips, author of The World Below

At the Other End:
In ancient times, magical creatures inhabited the earth. They lived on mountaintops, in trees, at the bottom of lakes and rivers. But that was long ago, before the human race declared war on the creatures they feared and hated. Now the enchanted peoples are all but gone. Those few that remain fear being stretched out on an examination table in some secret, governmental facility. The only place they can hide from the ever increasing number of satellites and smart phones is in the World Below.
Mitch Hardy is going through a hard time in his life. In his early twenties, he was working his way through college when he suffered an accident that left him flat broke and physically deformed. When Mitch decides to make a fresh start in a new town, things start looking up. He finds a place to live, a decent job, good friends. He even meets a nice girl. Unknown to Mitch, his new girlfriend is one of the Elder Race, what some call the Faerie Folk. Mitch doesn’t know that Elizabeth is looking for a father she never knew. The key to finding him is somehow tied up with the mysterious Blade of Caro. Desperate, she steals the Blade from its protector, the despotic ruler of the World Below, the Dragon of Worms, Baron Finkbeiner. When Elizabeth is kidnapped by the Baron, Mitch is pulled into a world or magic and monsters he never imagined.

Author Bio...
Hello everyone, and thank you for reading my guest post. My name is Mike Phillips and my new book is The World Below. I was asked to talk a little about my experiences as a writer, so I thought I’d start at the beginning. I was raised on a small farm in west Michigan. As a child, my family and I grew our own fruits and vegetables and meat. We heated our house with wood. We even made most of our own furniture. During the summer, my father turned off “The Idiot Box” and took us to the library. When not pulling weeds, repairing fences, tending livestock, or just goofing off, I spent my time reading. That’s where my love of a good story came from. When I went off to college, I chose a career in engineering. My first real job, however, bored me to tears. Before the year was out, I started writing short stories just as something to occupy myself. I had no intention of trying to make a career out of writing. Nothing was further from my mind.

Well, one story led to the next and I enjoyed the process so much that I thought I might try a novel. That’s a huge undertaking and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I loved every minute of it. I really loved the work. That first novel is still tucked safely away on my hard drive, never to be seen, but it did light a fire in my heart. Reign of the Nightmare Prince was completed the following year and was my first published novel. Now I have two published novels with a third on the way and a ton of short stories that have appeared everywhere in print and online. But the level of success I have been able to achieve in writing hasn’t been easy. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. Just when I think everything is going great, something bad happens. At different times, I had contracts with a half dozen book publishers that went out of business, and my books never got published. For a while I thought I might be a jinx. Unfortunately, I’ve had much the same kind of luck with agents. There were many times when I felt like giving up. I’m glad now that I didn’t. Life is so weird. If you have a dream, stick to it and see what happens. Thank you so much for joining us. I hope you enjoy The World Below.

Villains

Hello everyone, and thank you for reading my guest post. My name is Mike Phillips and my new book is The World Below. I have been asked to talk a little about the characters in the book, and there is no better place to start than with the despotic rule or the World Below, Dragon of Worms, Baron Finbeiner. He is an ancient creature, very secretive about his abilities, hiding his true face from even the citizens of the World Below. As the story begins, the Blade of Caro is stolen from the Baron. It is the only weapon known to be able to destroy him. It turns out that that the Blade was taken by Lady Elizabeth, the Baron’s most hated enemy. Unable to recover the blade on his own, the Baron tricks a sorcerer, Jason Hume, into helping him get the Blade of Caro back. Jason Hume is an interesting guy. He has magical talent, amongst which is the ability to cast lightning bolts. That makes him a formidable opponent, and he likes to throw his weight around. At the beginning of the novel, Baron Finkbeiner tricks Jason into helping him against Lady Elizabeth by kidnapping his sister. As they work together, Jason begins to see how good it is to have someone as powerful as the Baron by his side. Before long, Jason gives into temptation, and begins to see what spoils he can find for himself. Thank you so much for joining me. I hope you enjoy The World Below. All Hallows Eve Indies Blog Tour with Alyssa Rose Ivy

At the Other End:
In the city that never sleeps the Chronicles continue…
Serving coffee is temporary, just like Casey's year off from school. She’s going to come up with a plan to stay in New York City and go back to college, and that plan does not involve dating a paranormal creature—let alone two.
Running the supernatural society of New York is not as fun as it sounds, especially when you still have to answer to your ex-girlfriend’s fiancĂ©. Toby doesn’t mean to bring Casey into the chaos of his life, but he can't resist the girl who makes him smile when he thought no one else ever could.
Jared's in New York checking out a security risk for his best friend, the king. He plans to return to New Orleans quickly, but not if it means losing his chance with the brunette who pretends she wants nothing to do with him.
In over her head with a bunch of winged creatures who most definitely are not angels, Casey has to figure out who to trust with her life and maybe her heart.

Shhh... Don't Tell:

“I know the kind of guy you are.”
“You do? Please, tell me. I can’t wait to hear this assessment.”
“You’re arrogant, pig headed, and you think a girl’s just going to fall to her knees if you take your shirt off… ” To my credit, I was still standing. “Speaking of which, why is your shirt off?”
He smirked. “Why do you think it’s off?  Since apparently you’re the expert on guys like me. I’m going to ignore the fall to their knees comment. You look cute when you blush, but it might push you over the edge.”
“I’m sure there’s a reason for it.” I crossed my arms, wishing I were in my own clothes and wishing he hadn’t made me think about falling to my knees around him. That just made me wonder if his lower half was as impressive as his top.
“There is. Maybe I’ll tell you about it sometime.”  As if he could read my thoughts, he adjusted the waist of his jeans.
“Not likely. Is there a reason you’re still here even though I told you Toby’s out?”
“Yes. He wasn’t in his office either. I need to find him.”
“I won’t be able to help you there.”
“But you might be able to help me in other ways?” He smirked again, and I had a feeling those kind of lines had worked for him before.
“Could you just leave?”
“I suppose I could. Is that what you want?”
I nodded.
“Maybe I’ll see you around again. I think I missed your name though.”
“You didn’t miss it. I never told you.”
“Oh, I see. I’m Jared.” He held out his hand like he wanted to shake. I resisted the urge to take it, to find out what his touch felt like.
“If you’re going to be that way.” He flashed me another smile before walking out the door. “See you around, sleep over girl.”

While you’re waiting for November 19th, read the series that started it all:

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

At the Other End of Focus:
Freshman year of college is hard even when you're not tied to the future king of a supernatural society.
Allie dives into college head first with Hailey as her roommate and the city of New Orleans as her backyard. As things within The Society heat up, Allie realizes that whether she’s with Levi or not, she's in far too deep to turn back.

At the Other End of Found:
Levi might be hot, strong, and have a cool set of wings, but it's not enough to make up for keeping Allie in the dark.
Allie's tired of being left with more questions than answers. She's tired of loving a guy who refuses to level with her.  Most of all, she's tired of her life spinning out of control.
Desperate to save Jess no matter the personal cost, Allie has to face the possibility that the only one she can trust is herself.

Interview with Karoline Barrett, author of the Art of Being Rebekkah

At the Other End:
When talented Jewish artist, Rebekkah Gelles finds out her husband has a frightening dark side, she wants out of her marriage; but her life gets complicated when she moves back to her parents’ home in Park Slope, Brooklyn and falls for the charming Italian detective who’s investigating her estranged husband. Convinced he’s all wrong for her—he’s not Jewish for one thing—Rebekkah struggles with love, faith, family, and a surprise pregnancy

************************************************************************

Author Bio:
Karoline Barrett loves writing and reading women’s fiction and romance.  Her short stories have been published in various outlets, most recently in Every Day Fiction.  She is also a poet.  Karoline was born in upstate New York and has lived in South America, Indiana, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  At the moment, she lives in a small Connecticut town with her husband.  When not writing, Karoline reads, spends time by the water, watches the New York Yankees, indulges her Coca-Cola addiction and does anything that has nothing to do with math.

Take A Seat. Get Strapped In. Let's Go For A Ride:

1. Where have we seen you before? (previous projects/works)
My short stories have appeared in All Things Girl; Every Day Fiction; Eastown Fiction; Long Story Short; The Other Herald; The Storyteller; and Slow Trains Literary Journal.

2. What goes through your mind after your novel has been on sale for the first week?
First, relishing the thrill of actually having a novel for sale!  Second , hoping  people are buying my novel, THE ART OF BEING REBEKKAH like crazy, followed by hoping they love it and encourage others to buy it!

3. What inspired you to write this novel?
I’ve always been fascinated by different religions and cultures. In my novel, Rebekkah is a talented Jewish artist, whose life gets complicated when she falls for the charming Italian police detective who is investigating her estranged husband, and her mother reveals a secret that could change Rebekkah’s life.

4. What do you think about when getting/seeing negative reviews?
Logically, I  get that not everyone is not going to love THE ART OF BEING REBEKKAH. Still, negative reviews are not easy for any author, so those I will skim over, and concentrate on the positive ones, hoping they way outnumber the negative ones.

5. How long was the writing/planning process?
The entire process took about a year. Unfortunately, I had to start over when I got to Chapter Fifteen and realized I had no idea where my novel was going, or even where it was supposed to go! I finished THE ART OF BEING REBEKKAH in November 2011. In January 2012, I began querying agents who work with women’s fiction. In October 2012, I signed with Frances Black of Literary Counsel, and my novel will be out this fall (2013).

6. What was your reaction to the cover art when you saw it for the first time? Did you have any ideas from the days of writing/inspiration?
I worked with my agent on ideas for the cover of THE ART OF BEING REBEKKAH, which was a lot of fun. The cover was done by illustrator Martin Blanco and he did a fantastic job! I absolutely love what he did. The cover captures Rebekkah, my main female character so well, and I hope readers will feel the same way.  A  cover should shout, “Read me!” and I think mine definitely does.

7. Any plans for future writing projects? Any being worked on now?
I’m working on a cozy mystery right now, which may turn in to a series. I’ve also got a completed romance tucked away, which I would love my agent to sell, but it’s only at 30,000 words, so I need to make it longer.

8. Top 5 books

  • The Secret Life of Bees
  • The Atlas of Love
  • This Is Where I Leave You
  • Deader Homes and Gardens
  • Miss Julia to the Rescue

9. What book/s from other authors do you wish you had written?
Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Grove series and Joan Hess’s Claire Malloy series.

10. Why read your novel?
THE ART OF BEING REBEKKAH explores what happens to a woman after she falls for a man that seems all wrong for her, then has to rethink what love, faith, and family mean to her after she almost loses him. If you love romantic women’s fiction that illustrates the female journey, is character driven, emotional, suspenseful, and easily digestible, this book is for you!
