At the Other End:
Trapped in a dark cult, sixteen-year-old Naomi Aren has lived a quiet, albeit unhappy, life nestled deep in the hills of the Ozarks.  With uncut hair, denim skirts, and only roses for friends, Naomi seldom questions why her life is different from other kids at school. Until the day her abusive father, who is also the cult’s leader, announces her wedding. Naomi must marry Dwayne Yerdin, a bully who reeks of sweat and manure and is the only one person who scares her worse than her father.

Then she meets Kai, the mysterious boy who brings her exotic new roses and stolen midnight kisses. Kisses that bring her a supernatural strength she never knew she had.  As the big day approaches, Naomi unearths more secrets of about her father’s cult. She learns she has power of her own and while Kai may have awakened that power, Naomi must find a way to use it to escape Dwayne and her father—without destroying herself.

Interview:
1. Where have we seen you before? (previous projects/works)
I’m a debut author so I’m new to the scene. I’m excited to be here though.

2. What goes through your mind after your novel has been on sale for the first week?

I haven’t gone through this yet. I’ll let you know when it happens.

3. What inspired you to write this novel?

This is such a hard question. So many different things. The central idea of kissed was a daydream that I ran with. Most of my stories begin that way. But as I started writing I knew I had to make the story so much more than a simple romance plot. (Though I love reading those.) Shortly after I moved to the Ozarks the FBI had swarmed a compound up the mountain and suddenly I had my sheltered home and setting. To this day, I don’t know what the FBI was doing there, it was probably a drug bust, but for me and my imagination, it was a creepy cult.

4. What do you think about when getting/seeing negative reviews?

I haven’t had any yet, but negative reviews are part of the business. Reading is so subjective. Some people are going to love my work and others are going to hate it. It’s not personal. (Ask me that question again after I’ve had a few, I’m sure my response will be tearful).

5. How long was the writing/planning process?

Kissed began when I wrote one chapter and sent it off to one of my best friends. Through a series of several emails and lots of begging for more on her part, the first draft was complete in a little over two months. Four years and several drafts later it’s finally hitting the shelves.

6. What was your reaction to the cover art when you saw it for the first time? Did you have any ideas from the days of writing/inspiration?

I LOVED it the moment I saw it. My cover designer has serious talent and knew exactly what I wanted. I had so many ideas for the cover while I was writing. There were days when I was procrastinating my edits that I would just search for pictures that represented what I wanted. The main source of inspiration came from roses.

7. Any plans for future writing projects? Any being worked on now?

I’m currently working on the sequel. Aside from that I have a contemporary romance and a high fantasy. Both are young adult.

8. Top 5 books

  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
  • Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (cliché, I know, but its my comfort read)
  • The Fault in our Stars by John Green
  • Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
  • The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

9. What book/s from other authors do you wish you had written?

Harry Potter

10. Why read your novel?

Kissed is quick read that has creepy villains, adventure, and a lot of kissing.
