At the Other End:
In the conclusion to the trilogy that Publishers Weekly called “a roaring—and addictive—gothic world,” Eleanor Fitt must control her growing power, face her feelings for Daniel, and confront the evil necromancer Marcus...all before it’s too late.

He took her brother, he took her mother, and now, Marcus has taken her good friend Jie. With more determination than ever to bring this sinister man to justice, Eleanor heads to the hot desert streets of nineteenth-century Egypt in hopes of ending this nightmare. But in addition to her increasingly tense relationships with Daniel, Joseph, and her demon, Oliver, Eleanor must also deal with her former friend, Allison, who has curiously entangled herself in Eleanor’s mission.

With the rising dead chomping at her every move and Jie’s life hanging in the balance, Eleanor is convinced that her black magic will see her through to the bitter end. But there will be a price. Though she and the Spirit Hunters have weathered every battle thus far, there will be consequences to suffer this time—the effects of which will be irreversible. And when it’s over, only some will be able to live a strange and ever after.

Susan Dennard will leave readers breathless and forever changed in the concluding pages of this riveting ride.

The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.

And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor... from her brother.

Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she'll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. So when Eleanor hears the vicious barking of hounds and sees haunting yellow eyes, she fears that the Dead, and the necromancer Marcus, are after her.

To escape, Eleanor boards a steamer bound for France. There she meets Oliver, a young man who claims to have known her brother. But Oliver harbors a dangerous secret involving necromancy and black magic that entices Eleanor beyond words. If she can resist him, she'll be fine. But when she arrives in Paris, she finds that the Dead have taken over, and there's a whole new evil lurking. And she is forced to make a deadly decision that will go against everything the Spirit-Hunters stand for.

In Paris, there's a price for this darkness strange and lovely, and it may have Eleanor paying with her life.

Author Bio
I am a writer, reader, lover of animals, and eater of cookies. I used to be a marine biologist, but now I write novels. And not novels about fish either, but novels about kick-butt heroines and swoon-worthy rogues (I really like swoon-worthy rogues).

I live in the Midwest with my husband and two dogs (Asimov and Princess Leia), and you can learn more about my crazy thoughts and crippling cookie-addiction on my blog or twitter.

My debut, SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY is now available from HarperTeen along with the prequel, A DAWN MOST WICKED, and the sequel A DARKNESS STRANGE & LOVELY.

Look for STRANGE & EVER AFTER in summer 2014 and TRUTHWITCH in fall 2015!

Note: I am on Goodreads to READ. So, if you want to discuss books and the joys of literature, add me as a friend.

  1. I want to read this book! Well, I need to read book #2, actually. Minor detail. I was so impressed with teh first. I didn't really know what to expect...but I loved how there was some awesome humour in there as well. Just. so. awesome. I loved the "I'm not a misfit" line from book #1 because the play on words just really was perfect! If I was in a zombie apocalypse...oh gosh. I would probably hide while zombies attacked my street, and then I'd go back to my house. You know, live in the area they'd already combed? Safer. YES I HAVE BEEN PLANNING THIS. x)

    1. Oh, I haven't read this series yet, but I've been meaning to for a long long time! I hope it's just as awesome as you say it is. I can't wait to read it. hahaha that is a smart idea, you should definitely call the people who write the Zombie Apocalypse survival guide, or at least write one yourself :P

  2. I actually bought books one and two on Kindle, but haven't gotten around to reading them yet either. I actually like a bit of steampunk, as long as it's not all steam ships and monocles and stuff. I'm probably stereotyping there though. As soon as the third one is released, I'll grab it and do a series read when I have a few days. The last really good steampunk I read was Masque of the Red Death, so it's been ages.

    1. I haven't read these either. But I'm really looking forward to as well. The only steampunk I've read is Take Back the Skies (if you would even call it Steampunk), but I like the idea of it, without being too overbearing, like you said. haha gotta love binge-reading! You going to do the novella as well? Ohh, I haven't read that one either, will need to check it out.

  3. I can't wait for this one! I'm really tempted to read that extra scene but I haven't finished the series yet so I don't want to spoil it for myself. Thanks for sharing!
