At the Other End:
It's been two months since the dark tunnels of the underworld came for Nikki Beckett. That night, Nikki's boyfriend, Jack, made the ultimate sacrifice and took her place in the Everneath for eternity - a debt that should have been hers. Every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused, and wasting away. All Nikki wants is to save him before it's too late, but no matter how hard she tries to reach for his hand, she can never find it.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his Queen - and the one person least likely to help. But it seems Nikki has touched his heart, and surprisingly, Cole agrees to help in the only way he can - by taking Nikki to the Everneath himself.

As they descend into the heart of the Everneath Nikki and Cole discover that their journey will be more difficult than they'd anticipated, and more deadly. Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack - even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own…

I write Young Adult novels. I live for chocolate covered cinnamon bears. I love me some Diet Coke. My debut book EVERNEATH (the first in a trilogy) came out January 24, 2012 with Balzer and Bray (HarperCollins). The sequel EVERBOUND comes out January 22, 2013.

A brilliant sequel leaves on a shocking note and desperately hanging for more.

I really liked this one. It was a brilliant sequel to Everneath, and we get to see the actual Everneath throughout most of this book, which is a really good inclusion and makes the book really shine.

In this book, I found that I didn't actually like Nikki as much as I thought I did. Sure, I still liked her character, but it was just meh after she was so focused on trying to free Jack, that she didn't actually think things through. Or that she was still (even from the first book), completely hooked on him. I still don't trust Jack, even though he was in my good books for a minute there by going into the Tunnels instead of Nikki. But then we get to her memories of Jack, and I started not liking him again. Honestly, can't she see how much Cole likes her, maybe even loves her. She can see it too, but she just doesn't want to see it because she "loves" Jack. She frustrated me during this book, I can't remember the exact times, but I know that she did. In a way, even though Nikki doesn't deserve Cole, she is too good for Jack too.

I loved Cole in this book. Even though Nikki doesn't deserve his love, he still completely sucked me in. I loved his struggle and his need to help Nikki, even though it wasn't because he had to, but because he wanted to. When it came to what happened in the end, I completely understood where he was coming from. He made her an Everliving because he would do anything to be with her... doesn't that remind you of what Nikki would do to be with Jack? It annoyed me that she got so angry at it, because she couldn't see that she was doing the exact same thing for Jack. Even though Cole planned it from the start, and I was shocked when I found out, I still felt like saying awwwww, because it's then that you can see how much he actually does love her. It's a strange way of showing it, but like he said, he has the rest of eternity to make her forgive him.

I loved being in the Everneath. it was a brilliant setting, and everything that happened in the mazes was completely gripping, and I had a hard time trying to make myself stop reading when I had to. I'm curious as to what happened with the Queen and Ashe, and hopefully we get to find out in the next book. The new characters that were introduced to this book, were a great addition and it brought the book up.

The ending of this book was shock, after shock, after shock... and I didn't predict any of them. The ending left me gobsmacked, yet I smirked at the reality of what happened at the same time. I honestly can't tell you how much of a cliffhanger this book leaves on.

If I didn't have Evertrue sitting next to me, waiting to be picked up... I don't know what I would have done. My sympathy to those who read this before Evertrue came out. I KNOW YOUR PAIN.
