Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas #MaasThirteen Blog Tour! Colouring Birthday Bash + Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the Empire of Storms blog tour!

Can you all believe that Empire of Storms is already out and that there is only ONE more full length book to go in this amazing series? Today I'm going to be doing something extra special because IT'S MY BIRTHDAY and who wouldn't want to celebrate with Aelin/Celaena?

I'm so proud to be part of the amazing Maas Thirteen, Sarah is my all time favourite author and no matter what she writes, I will forever be reading it.

Seeing as the colouring book released alongside Empire of Storms, I've currently been obsessed again with colouring. I treated myself to really good watercolour pencils, and have been colouring my life away when I have a few spare moments (which is hardly ever, but come on). I posted a few times on my Instagram Stories of my colouring and I was surprised at how many of you loved watching me colour in this stunning book, so I decided to celebrate today with colouring an entire page of the colouring book, and you guys are going to be watching the entire thing! haha don't worry, I've done it in quite a few hyperlapse videos so you're not going to be here for half the night watching me. I'm also going to talk about the colours that I've used and some of the pencil techniques and styles that I use. I'm no professional, so if I'm wrong about something (which I probably am), don't take my word as gospel.

So this is my first finished colouring in the book! I posted a few videos of this on my instagram story and I'm so happy with how this turned out!

Look at this gorgeous illustration! This is the one that we are going to be colouring, you may have seen this on Twitter on wednesday night because I couldn't choose which page to do :D Ok, lets get onto the colour!

Unfortunately, my video editing isn't working at the moment, so before I realized that my phone actually has a Hyperlapse feature (duh, Gina), so these are only a few of the later videos.

In Heir of Fire Rowan is said to be wearing a light hood, so I decided to make it a light green that suits his eyes and the rest of his outfit. Plus, I feel like the green really suits this scene. I wanted to use a colour that suited the scene, yet wasn't brown or black like the buildings, floor and shadows.

I absolutely love the colour of Rowan's Jacket. I wanted something in a green to suit his hood, but not just a dark green. I mixed three different colours to create this shade of green and I love how it's turned out. It turned out being a dark colour, but it isn't a dark coverage so you can still see all the details on his jacket. These two videos show the layering of the three different colours (dark green, dark blue and black), and then the watercolour at the end to turn it into that really dusty blue-green colour that really complements his hood.

I love watching this video and seeing how blue the sash comes out so vivid and really stands out against everything else and really brings some much needed colour to the page. But it still matches the jacket because I've included the blue in that as well.

It might seem weird because I really loved doing Celaena's hair in the first colouring image above, and I loved it again this second time on this page. I loved adding the detail from the brown pencil (unfortunately, I didn't hyperlapse it) and how it gives her hair more depth and more of a natural colour because it's not just yellow. Once I did the lines of her hair movements, I added the water with the brush the brown really flows subtly through her hair with each stroke.

You can really see in this video with the colouring of Celaena's gaultlets and her belt that the amount of pressure you put on the page really makes a difference, as well as the layering of colours as well. If you look at the brown I've put on top of the lighter parts of the actual gauntlet, you can't tell exactly what the colour is going to turn out like, especially with how much of each colour comes through.

Here is the final product! I love how it all turned out and I can't wait to see all your colouring :D Let me know what you think in the comments, and if you have any questions as well :)
